New secondary school in Konstanz-Hafner
The new secondary school in Konstanz-Hafner is conceived as the southern gateway to the emerging urban quarter, mediating between existing green landscapes and the future dense fabric of the district. Three interlocking volumes rise from a shared plinth, stepping down in height toward the northeast to create a dialogue with surrounding buildings while marking the entrance to the neighborhood with a clear urban presence. The plinth responds to the site’s topography and concentrates communal functions, the sports hall, and shared facilities within an open, barrier-free ground level that acts as the social heart of the school. Above, clustered learning units are organized around generous courtyards that bring daylight deep into the building and foster visual connectivity. The sports hall roof becomes an elevated playground, extending the public realm vertically. Through its terraced massing, integrated landscape strategy, and warm timber façade system, the project establishes a contemporary educational campus that anchors the new district while remaining closely connected to its natural surroundings.
