The project is situated along Wriezener Straße in Strausberg, where the urban strategy aims to strengthen the street as a continuous “education corridor” connecting the existing educational institutions with new public and recreational spaces. The linear arrangement of the new gymnasium establishes a strong urban edge while creating a sequence of open spaces that mediate between the dense built environment and the preserved northern pioneer forest. Pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular circulation are carefully separated to ensure clarity and safety, while the public forecourt and passages encourage interaction between the school, sports facilities, and surrounding neighbourhood. The proposal also responds sensitively to the historic and protected context by aligning with existing street edges and respecting the scale and height of the neighbouring heritage buildings, creating a contemporary yet contextual architectural presence. The design emphasizes openness, sustainability, and spatial connectivity. The building is organized through a functional layering system, where public functions such as the foyer, cafeteria, and administration occupy the ground floor, while educational spaces are distributed across the upper levels. The classrooms and learning clusters are connected through open circulation zones, terraces, and visual links that encourage communication and collaborative learning. A timber-hybrid structural system defines the architectural character, combining robustness with warmth and environmental responsibility. The extensive use of wood, natural materials such as clay partition walls, green terraces, and renewable energy systems reflect a strong commitment to sustainable construction and long-term adaptability. Together, the architectural and landscape concepts create a contemporary educational environment that integrates social interaction, ecological sensitivity, and respect for the surrounding urban and historical context.
