A New Headquarters in Stolpe

The new headquarters is situated directly along the A111 motorway in the municipality of Stolpe, on the former site of the Brandenburg motorway administration. The urban concept responds carefully to the infrastructural and environmental conditions of the location by organizing the building volumes perpendicular to the motorway, thereby reducing exposure to traffic noise while creating protected open spaces between the structures. The ensemble is conceived as a three- and four-story complex composed of a public plinth and two upper office volumes that integrate with landscaped outdoor areas. A north south circulation spine connects the different programmatic zones and establishes a framework for future expansion, while courtyards and green buffer zones contribute to a human-scaled environment and improve the microclimate of the site. The project is defined by its modular timber construction and its emphasis on flexibility, sustainability, and spatial transparency. The exposed timber structural system, consisting of glued laminated beams and solid timber slabs, enables large column-free office spaces and adaptable floor plans organized around atria and circulation cores. The façade expresses the internal structural rhythm and adapts to orientation and programmatic requirements through prefabricated timber modules with varying degrees of glazing and integrated greenery. Public functions such as the reception, conference facilities, and cafeteria occupy the ground floor and open directly toward landscaped outdoor spaces, reinforcing the relationship between interior and exterior. Passive environmental strategies, including natural ventilation, shading devices, green façades, and night cooling, together with photovoltaic panels and district heating, support the project’s contemporary and sustainable architectural identity.
