A New Educational Campus in Brig-Glis Valais
The project is located in Brig-Glis, a town set within the Rhône Valley and framed by the Alpine landscape, where urban fabric and natural surroundings coexist in a fragmented yet dynamic balance. The site lies in the Sandmatte district, at the edge of the historic center and near the expanding Upper Valais Hospital. Characterized by a mix of residential buildings, institutional uses, and open land, the area reflects both urban and peripheral qualities. The campus is envisioned as a catalyst for transformation, strengthening connections within this heterogeneous context and contributing to the emergence of a cohesive urban identity. Emphasis is placed on integrating pedestrian and cycling routes, including the “Rote Meile,” and on creating accessible, high-quality public spaces that connect the campus with the surrounding neighborhood and landscape. Architecturally, the project calls for a clear and legible composition capable of accommodating a complex, shared program while fostering interaction between different institutions and users. The campus is conceived as an open and flexible learning environment, where interior and exterior spaces are closely interwoven to support contemporary educational models based on collaboration and exchange. A strong emphasis is placed on spatial clarity, functional efficiency, and adaptability, alongside sustainable construction and long-term performance. The architecture is expected to express the institutional significance of the campus while remaining sensitive to scale, creating a vibrant place for study, research, and social life that engages both its users and the wider community.
