A New Lecture Hall Center in Hamburg

The project is located in Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld, a new mixed-use district that brings together research, education, housing, and public life. Positioned along the Campusmeile which is a central pedestrian spine that serves as a key link between the university campus and the surrounding city, especially along Luruper Chaussee. The building anchors an important urban corner and helps shape a sequence of plazas and landscaped spaces, reinforcing the vision of an open, accessible campus. Its ground floor extends the public realm, encouraging interaction between students, faculty, and the wider community. Architecturally, the building is conceived as a compact, sculptural volume with a strong civic presence. A textured metallic façade gives it a distinctive character, while generous openings reveal interior activity and establish a visual connection to the outside. At its core, a large atrium forms the social heart of the building, drawing in natural light and linking different levels of visually and physically. Public functions are located on the ground floor, with flexible teaching spaces above, supporting openness, adaptability, and the integration of learning with everyday social exchange.
